Summer Shut-Down 2024

As usual, the summer is the time where we take a little break from classes. Please make a note of the following dates – there will be no classes running throughout this week:

19th August – 25th August 2024

All other classes will be running as normal through the summer holidays so do come to as many as you can to keep that consistency (and to hopefully tire out the little ones!).

Get to know your Instructors

Every Friday one of the Instructing team will be taking over the MF Kent Instagram account to answer any questions you may have.

You may wish to ask them about their own training, what got them started, any high / low points or just what is their favourite food? It is up to you!

South-East Championships – 25th May

Venue: The Triangle Leisure Centre, Triangle Way, Burgess Hill, RH15 8WA. 

Registration: 8.00am

Line-up: 8:45am

Start time:  9:00am: Finish: 5:00pm

PLEASE NOTE: An individual registration form must be completed for each competitor, the Liability checkbox must be completed individually.

  • All competitors must bring their licenses with them on the day of the competition; licenses will be checked at registration.
  • All students must wear full Matt Fiddes white / leadership uniform + belt.
  • The organiser of the competition reserves the right to adjust the age/grade categories on the day of the tournament according to the entries received. If there are not enough competitors in your belt category you will be given the opportunity of moving up to the next category.
  • BRAND NEW CATEGORIES FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH ADDITIONAL NEEDS
  • ALL SPECTATOR TICKETS MUST BE BOUGHT IN ADVANCE

Canterbury IMC – training for Red-Stripe & above students

If you have not done so already, now is the time to book yourself on to the upcoming International Master Class (IMC); a unique training day just for students and Instructors who are red-stripe & above.

This is a unique opportunity to train alongside some of the highest ranked students and instructors in the UK and it is right on our doorstep.

Led by members of the MF Panel Grading Board, the day will consist of:

  • Red-stripe – Deputy Black Belts : 3hrs training
  • 1st Degree & above : 5hrs training

Whether you are working specifically towards your next grading, wish to learn something new or just want to take your martial arts journey to a different level, these IMC sessions will be a hugely positive opportunity for everyone involved.

Easter Classes and Camps

Easter Martial Arts Camp

Dates: 14th – 16th April (incl.)

Deadline for registration: 11th April 2025

For students aged 5-12yrs.  The perfect way to burn off any excess holiday energy – for students, family and friends.

Come and join us for a fun-filled morning of Martial Arts  and lots of other fun games and activities all led by Miss Emily Calder (3rd Dan) & team.  This camp is open to all children aged from 5yrs to 12yrs and families can pick 1, 2 or 3 days.

Location: The Canterbury Primary School, Canterbury

Times:

9:00am: registration

9:30:00 – 1:00pm; Martial Arts Camp

The days will consist of lots of:

  • Fun drills which will improve your overall knowledge of martial arts
  • Self Defence
  • Sparring
  • Lots of fun activities
  • & much more!

Sparring Camp

Dates: 14th / 15th & 16th April (students can chose any number of days)

Location: Canterbury Primary School, Canterbury

Times: 1:00 – 3:00pm

These sessions are open to all students aged 7yrs & above.  Whether training for a tournament, your next belt or you just wish to learn more about sparring (an important skill to become a black belt and beyond), then these are the sessions for you.

PLEASE NOTE:

Students must have a minimum of the official MF sparring gloves.

Students who are deputy black belt & above must have the full MF sparring kit.

Easter Classes

There will be no classes on the following dates over Easter:

  • Friday, 18th April
  • Saturday, 19th April

All other classes will run as normal during the Easter holidays.​

2025 INTERCLUB TOURNAMENT

Ditton Community Centre, Aylesford

We are so excited to be running our Interclub Tournament for the second year, aimed at giving every student an opportunity to compete in a smaller scale, more relaxed tournament as well being a fantastic practice tool for your progression in martial arts.

The day is open to all ages and levels and is the perfect opportunity for anyone to try a tournament for the first time, or just to sharpen those skills and drills in a fun setting.

£25.00 £20.00 (early bird special) – single competitor

£40.00 £30.00 (early bird special) – 2+ family competitors

Spectators – FREE

MIGHTY MATT students can compete in:

  • Hand-drills
  • Kick-boxing drill
  • Kicking combo
  • “Beat the Instructor” sparring
  • Flying Sidekick

JUNIORS & ADULTS can compete in:

  • Kick-boxing drill
  • Kicking combo
  • Sparring

This is very much a family day so do bring along family and friends to watch and take-part.

There will also be a MERCHANDISE STALL and TEA & COFFEE to purchase.

Come and join us for 1, 2 or 3 x fun-filled mornings of activities and martial arts fun – open to students and non-students.

First Aid Course for students and families

We are delighted to be able to host a first aid course for all of our students, parents and families – this is open to everyone.

The course will run as follows:

  • Children aged 7-11yrs: 10:00 – 1:00pm
  • Anyone aged 12yrs+: 10:00 – 4:00pm

A Night at the Races – 16th March

Fundraising Race Night

The Canterbury Academy

7:00 – 10:30pm

Come and join us for a adrenaline fuelled evening of laughter and light-hearted gambling, all to help raise funds to send a team to the International Championships in Australia this year.

If you have not attended a race night before, they are lots of fun for everyone.  With some light-hearted betting for each race (£0.50p per bet), all the races are pre-recorded and selection is made on the night, so nobody knows the result – not even us!  50% of the takings go to help raise money for the trip and the remainder is split between winning ticket holders and sponsors.  There will also be a raffle and light refreshment available to purchase.

There are also opportunities to get involved a little more and win bigger on the night;

  • Sponsor a race (8 x races in total) – £50.00
  • Sponsor a horse (10 x horses per race) – £10.00
