Helping Change 4 Life

Posted on: January 27th, 2013 by David Finch

On Saturday, 25th January MF Kent and some of the Team gave a fantastic demo class in front of hundreds of shoppers in Whitefriars Shopping Centre, Canterbury.

The event was organised by the NHS Change 4 Life department and Kent County Council to help promote the benefits of exercise and to raise awareness about healthy eating.

Thank you so much to all the students who came out to show their amazing ability and attitude.  Everyone was so impressed and I am very proud of you all.  There is a group photo with the Juniors in the photos section of the website.  I would also like to thank the following students and team members for giving up their time to attend:

Sam (Swalecliffe), Mr Kalle Homewood, Mr Bryn Homewood, Mrs Susan Daly and all the amazing parents and supporters.

Many congratulations to Edward Carter from our Maidstone School who beat of tough competition to win the 2013 Disability Sports Award and the Maidstone Youth Sports Achievement Awards Ceremony on 25th January.

Edward has been a model student since he started back in June 2006.  After years of dedication and hard work Edward is now a wonderful 1st Degree Black Belt, continues to train and learn and also helps to teach other younger students in his spare time.

This special award is very well deserved and we are all very proud.

Well done Edward!

MF Kent in Partnership with Reculver Primary School

Posted on: January 23rd, 2013 by David Finch

This year has seen the launch of a very exciting partnership with Reculver Primary School, Herne Bay.

For over a year now we have been running a full-time MF Kent School from Reculver Primary School and the students there are nothing short of fantastic!  After an electrifying demo last year in front of the school we were asked to provide Martial Arts PE Lessons for the entire school.  Consequently, with the help of Miss Hatch (Deputy Head) and Mrs Calder (School Governor and MF Kent Parent), we have agreed a scheme to teach each year group for a term with a focus on a specific life-skill.

We have started this project working with some Yr 3 classes with an emphasis on “concentration”.  It has been a brilliant start to the scheme and, if Yr 3 are anything to go by, the remainder of the academic year should be amazing.

We would like to publicly thank the school for this opportunity and Mrs Calder for all her hard work and passion in getting this project up and running.
