Whitstable Primary School Spring Fair

Saturday, 21st May 2016

11:00 – 2:00pm

We are delighted to have been invited to attend the first of many Spring & Summer fetes, at Whitstable Primary School – Saturday, 21st May.

We will be running a stand and running demo classes for everyone to join in and have some fun.

Mrs Daly will be running the stand and it would be great to see as many of you there as possible, helping to show all the children and parents how much fun you can have with Martial Arts.

Please contact Mrs Daly / Master Finch to be part of the team for that day.

Team Success at Southern Championships

Posted on: May 8th, 2016 by David Finch

Saturday, 7th May saw the MF Kent Team travel to the Loddon Valley Leisure Centre in Reading for the 2016 Southern Championships.  These events are always very well attended and contested and this one did not disappoint.

After weeks of preparation and hard work we took a team of 15 and it is no exaggeration to say that each and every member gave their all.  We had tears, nerves, laughs and cheers throughout the day and with over 500 people watching the excitement was incredible.

MF Kent Team

  • Shahd Mohammed
  • Marwan Mohammed
  • Hugo Ross-Phillips
  • Emily Calder (2 x Gold, 2 x Bronze)
  • Ethan May (2 x Bronze)
  • Joseph Parkin
  • Harry Watkinson
  • Millie-Rose Hinder (2 x Bronze)
  • Charlie Hinder (1 x Silver, 1 x Bronze)
  • Lauren Russell
  • Jake Porter-Ward (1 x Silver)
  • Harry Richardson
  • John Boon (1 x Gold, 1 x Bronze)
  • Joshua Boon
  • Lauren Coulthard (1 x Silver)

Success at events like these can be measured in so many ways.  For some success is fighting back the nerves and stepping onto the mat or winning through one round.  For others it might be to reach further in the competition than last time or even win a medal.  Whichever it is we had a team of winners for sure.

A huge thank you to all our amazing parents, families and friends who came to support with so much energy and passion.  The atmosphere and team spirit was fantastic throughout the day and really highlights what a family we are.  In addition, thank you to our MF Kent Team Instructors and Leaders for helping, motivating and supporting all day.  It was amazing to see our “seasoned” competitors coaching (to great success!) our younger members.

Junior Instructor Cleans Up Community

Posted on: April 21st, 2016 by David Finch

One of our wonderful Junior Instructors, Jasper, has recently gone out of his way to help the community clean up the local pond and communal area for the partially sighted as part of his Community Challenge.

As part of their J.C.I.T. journey, students must plan and be involved in something that benefits others in their community and Jasper has certainly done this – well done Jasper!  This is a fantastic example of being a Black Belt outside of the Martial Arts class.

Junior Instructor Raising Money for Charity

Posted on: April 21st, 2016 by David Finch

As part of the Junior Instructor assessment process, one of our team members, Lauren Russell, took the time to help much needed funds and awareness for Parkinson’s Disease.

This fund raising was part of the Community Challenge that Lauren undertook; being part of something that benefits others in the community.  Lauren’s efforts helped raise over £600 which is a fantastic effort!

After her fund raising evening, Lauren then presented her work to her Martial Arts class in Canterbury which is a challenge in itself.  However, she rose to the task and presented in a very confident, entertaining and informative way, so thank you and well done Lauren.

Junior Instructor teaches local Primary School

Posted on: April 8th, 2016 by David Finch

We are all very proud of Emma Watson who, as part of her Junior Instructor Certification, delivered a very engaging and educational Martial Arts P.E. lesson to her local Primary School.

Part of the J.C.I.T. assessment is to think of, organise and deliver a Community Challenge – something that will benefit others in the community.

In addition, Emma then presented her Challenge to her Martial Arts class in Canterbury.  Well done Emma!

It took a great deal of courage to deliver this lesson and shows the huge progress that Emma has made over the past 12-mths and, in particular, since completing the J.C.I.T. weekend in February this year.

MF Kent students excel on Junior Instructor Course

Posted on: February 22nd, 2016 by David Finch

I am extremely proud to share that the following students passed their Junior Instructor Course held in Swindon (20th & 21st February):

  • Emma Watson
  • Lauren Russell
  • Billy Hill
  • Jasper Knight

The 2-day course was an intense weekend of team building, self-discovery, challenges and practical learning all designed to help the candidates give back and inspire the next generation of Martial Arts students.

Throughout the weekend, all of the MF Kent team showed amazing focus, enthusiasm and hard work and I am extremely proud of them all.

I am very much looking forward to seeing them put what they have learnt into practice and working towards the next phase of their J.C.I.T. qualification.
