2023 British Championships – register now

Not long now until the biggest championships of the year – the 2023 British Championships. This will no doubt prove to be another day of nail-biting action so now is the time to start book your place and practice, practice, practice.

This event is open to all age groups and belt levels with categories available for:

  • Hand-drills
  • Kick-boxing drill
  • Sparring
  • Forms (traditional & musical)
  • Board breaking
  • Kicking combos

For those interested, we will be working on championship practice in class, however we strongly recommend attending the extra sessions we have put on to help fine-tune your categories and ensure everyone is competition ready:

Extra Championship Training – dates booked

MF Kent Team Training – The Canterbury Primary School – MAP

In preparation for the upcoming British Championships on 15th October we have arranged for some extra team training for all competitors (all ages and categories). We will, of course, still be training hard within classes – these are to help with that extra preparation and confidence which is important.

Please note the following times:

  • 10:00 – 11:30am (Practice for all ages and categories EXCEPT sparring)
  • 11:30 – 12:30pm (SPARRING practice only)
  • (students who are not sparring are welcome to stay and practice on their own – please note that focus will be on those sparring)

Canterbury Classes – 14th April

Just for today, all of our classes will run from a different hall than usual (same times). All classes will run from:

The Canterbury Academy – main school site (see map)

(NOT the Primary School)

You can park anywhere on the left as you drive in and then entry is through the main reception doors up the stairs. You should see a big MF Kent flag.

  • Normal COVID-Safe procedures in place

Weekly Update from Master Finch (29th March)

As we reach the end of March we can all be thankful that there is a huge light at the end of this long tunnel and we will be able to see each other, face-to-face, very soon.


Here are a few things from last week and a look ahead……

Extremely high standard of Grading:

Well done to all of those who took part in the online Grading on Sunday. Lots of hard work went into that day and your commitment, dedication and skill really showed. We cannot wait to give out new belts and certificates in 2-weeks when we return to class.


For those who did not grade, you can be extremely proud of yourselves for your focus and progress, especially over the last month.


Those who are looking at Panel Gradings (red-stripes and above) – your training will really step up in intensity as we head towards 2nd May.

Lots to look forward to……

As you know, we will be returning to face to face classes from 12th April onward. Please be sure to:

  • Book your space online every week
  • Trainers / plimsoles / martial arts shoes ONLY
  • Please stay in cars until called into class
  • Students of secondary school age & above must wear a face mask in communal areas
  • Please be sure to read the COVID-Safe procedures for your location

Easter Weekend

There are no classes on the following days;

  • Saturday, 3rd April
  • Tuesday, 6th April

We have come so far this year and no doubt you are all as excited about returning to classes as we are. Just remember – book your space(s) online.

Safeguarding Code Award

MF Kent has been awarded the “Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts”.

Achieving the Safeguarding Code, demonstrates our commitment to upholding our duty-of-care to the community and young people and recognises us as a martial arts provider that has reached and effectively maintained good safeguarding standards.


Developed in consultation with Sport England, representatives from martial arts governing bodies, and leading safeguarding experts, the Code is funded by the National Lottery and was launched by the Sports Minister in 2018.

When we return to face-to-face classes all students will need to book their space(s) online.

Please be sure to do this for every child and for every lesson – this is so important to ensure we keep all students and staff safe under our COVID-Safe guidelines.

Colour-belt Grading Info – 28th March 2021

We are very excited to announce the details for the first Grading day of 2021. After a long and, at times, challenging lock-down, we are so pleased to be able to offer our students the opportunity to show their skills after working so hard online.

Will I / my little one be Grading?

If we feel it is the right time we will invite you / your little one to the Grading via text message. This message will detail where to find all the information needed.

How do we confirm our place?

Your space is confirmed by paying online. By paying online you are acknowledging that you have read and understood all the paperwork.

Where do we find the information?

All the files that you need to read can be found:

How do we pay for the Grading?

Payment for the Grading is made online – details of which are on the paperwork. We will confirm receipt of payment via text which will include the Zoom password and details.

Is the Grading online?

Yes, we will send you the password etc upon receipt of payment.

Extra February half-term sessions (Juniors & Mighty Matts)
